  • Why is my credit card not accepted by PayPal?

PayPal's process for accepting credit cards payments is rigorous. This helps prevent people from paying for things with stolen or unauthorised cards. The screening process is complex and, on rare occasions, it will impact valid cards.

If you know your card is valid but your payment still doesn’t go through, we suggest that you try another credit card or try your transaction again later. Or you can Contact PayPal directly for verification.

Why must I open a PayPal Account when I am paying with my credit card?

PayPal requires you to open a PayPal Account to link and confirm your debit or credit card. These steps confirm your identity and credit card information, and limit the risks connected with stolen credit cards and fake identities.

Why do I need to verify my credit card with PayPal?

Verification increases the security of PayPal's payment network for sellers and buyers. Verification gives PayPal additional evidence of a member's identity and lets others know that you have completed this process and that the credit card used truly belongs to you.

Account holders become Verified when they complete our verification process. To become Verified, log in to your PayPal account, click the Unverified link, and follow the instructions.

How long does this verification process take?

You can find your four-digit PayPal code on your debit or credit card statement next to or near the charge amount. In the item description section, you will see it next to the word PAYPAL or PP.

Please allow a few working days for the PayPal code to appear on your online card statement. If you do not have online access to your statement, you'll need to wait for your statement in the post.

To enter your PayPal code, log in to your PayPal account, click Profile at the top of the page and click Credit Cards under Financial Information.
